- Draw
to scale: Spend time planning your project and draw out your
ideas, ideally on graph paper, using accurate measurements to
scale.
- Plan
ahead:
Some products may only be available to order so plan in advance.
- Allow
for shade variations:
Every precaution is taken to ensure consistency of shades between
batches of products but concrete is a natural product and minor
shade variations are often unavoidable.
- Prepare
the ground: Get the ground preparation correct and lay all
products on firm foundations of sand and cement, adjusting mixes
and grades to suit particular situations.
- Plan
for drainage: When laying paving, mix products to blend in
any shade variations and remember to give a fall to paved areas
away from building structures to allow surface water to drain
off.
- Seek
advice on large walling projects: Most walling blocks are
quite safe for use in small DIY jobs ie raised planters, but seek
advice from a professional for any bigger walling projects.
- Check
horizontals and verticals: Work methodically using string
lines and pegs etc and make frequent checks on horizontal and
vertical levels.
- Point
with care: Take time to point between products, choosing the
best method suited to the individual, as poor execution of this
particular activity can lead to severe staining.
- Beware
of chemical cleaners: It is not recommended to use chemical
cleaning agents or any other artificial surface treatment on these
products.
